Quoof and Donna were sitting in the sun on the veranda; nearby the maple tree was wearing its Autumn gown. Donna had picked an armful of the red, green and gold leaves and laced them through Quoof's collar.
"Oh! Quoof" she said, putting her arms around his neck and hugging him to her, "You look so beautiful! I do love you."
Quoof licked her face and she giggled; he loved his little Mistress, they spent many happy hours playing together in the sunshine.
Donna walked on the Maple leaves. "Listen to the sound they make." she said.
"Come Quoof, let's play in the orchard, there are even more fallen leaves there."
They raced down the garden path to the orchard.

"I won!" Quoof barked.
"Oh, you always win!" laughed Donna.
Crunch, crunch, crunch went the fallen leaves under their feet. Up and down between the trees they ran until Donna grew tired and sat on the lowest branch of a peach tree.
Quoof lay panting on the ground nearby.
"Look! Quoof, a horsey tree." said Donna and sitting astride the branch amused herself while Quoof dozed amid the leaves.
"What was that?" Something had jumped over his head. Quoof sniffed around and found the creature; a big green tree frog. Quoof touched it with his paw.

"Eeeeeek! Eeeeeek!" exclaimed the frog and jumped away.
Quoof chased after it.
"Eeeeek! Eeeeek!" the frog jumped and again Quoof chased it. In between the trees and round and round, up and down they went playing their game.
Suddenly, Quoof stopped. "This," he realised "is what ducks eat." But he knew he could never eat something that had given him so much fun.
